In 2015, The homeowner approached me with sketches of the house he envisioned. He wanted to build a near-net-zero residence for him and his family, using “passive house” principles and techniques The almost 7,000sf house delivers on the owners’ expectations. With a 10.7-kW PV system, the family’s average monthly utility bill is $45, which covers heating, cooling, hot water and all plug loads. 

 

The house’s performance and comfort stems from:

  • A high level on insulation on all 6 sides,

  • Meticulous air sealing,

  • High performance triple pane windows 

  • Continuous fresh air supply.

Net-Zero Home
East Norwalk, CT

The client, a doctor, purchased this property, 1 acre lot on a tidal lagoon in East Norwalk, with the intention of building a Net Zero house on it.

 

The house is only 1,780 sf but is packed with features typical of Net Zero homes.

  • Super insulated walls and roof

  • Triple pane European windows

  • Meticulous air sealing

  • Heat pump HVAC system

  • Heat pump radiant floor heating

  • Heat Pump hot water heating

The house is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024.
