Hotel Marcel

America's First Net Zero Energy Hotel

John partnered up with AIA Fellow Bruce Redman Becker and Cinematographer Ben Rountree to produce this delightful film. Featured is Becker's project to restore the former Perelli Tire Building and upgrade it to the nation's first Net-Zero hotel. Situated on New Haven's waterfront, Hotel Marcel is a self-sufficient boutique hotel that makes all the energy it uses.

The building, when completed, will be the 1st Net-Zero Energy hotel in the country. Targeted for LEED Platinum certification with 100% of it’s electricity coming from solar photovoltaics on site, Hotel Marcel is also slated to be the first Passive House certified hotel in the United States. Its completion is scheduled for spring, 2022.

The film has footage of the building inside and out and includes interviews with architect/developer Bruce Becker. It highlights the sustainable design features including the re-purposing of an historic landmark building.

The film was entered into the 2021 AIA Film Competition, and we are immensely proud to share it was selected as a top ten finalist. Please enjoy: Hotel Marcel.
